Library Collections

Map & Atlas Collections

The map and atlas collection include several hundred historic Brooklyn atlases dating from the nineteenth- and early twentieth-century and about 2,000 maps of Brooklyn, Long Island, New York City, and the outlying areas, as well as microfilms of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century maps and atlases.

The earliest atlas is Ludlam’s 1846 Brooklyn Heights atlas; other Brooklyn atlases include Perris, Dripps, Beers, Guzman, Hopkins, Bromley, Robinson, Hyde, and Sanborn.  Long Island atlases include select early twentieth century Sanborn and Hyde publications.  Maps generally span the nineteenth century.  Certain restrictions apply to the use of older and more fragile maps and atlases.
