The Roger Imperial photograph collection of buildings on or near Flatbush Avenue in Prospect Heights and Park Slope consists of two contact sheets of modern copies of photographs that belonged to Roger Imperial, as well as modern black-and-white film negatives of the same images that are on the contact sheets. The original photographs were taken by B. Hellmich from July 1914 to November 1915 for the Cranford Construction Company. The images show exterior and interior views of buildings on or or near Flatbush Avenue where it runs through the neighborhoods of Prospect Heights and Park Slope. The modern copies were made by Everett Ortner. An index identifying the location and date of each image on the contact sheets is also included.

B. Hellmich was a photographer whose studio was located at 176 Park Row in Manhattan.

Shellens Gallery construction photographs, 1988 – 1988

The Shellens Gallery construction photographs document the restoration and construction of the Shellens Gallery that is located within the Brooklyn Historical Society building. The collection includes 10 black-and-white 8 x 10 inch prints, one contact sheet, one 5 x 7 inch print, and negatives. Taken in March of 1988 by Arthur Vitols, the photographs show interior views of workers, scaffolding, and portions of the gallery under construction. There is also one photograph of exhibit builder and furniture maker Ethan Intrater at his shop standing next to a model of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Brooklyn street scenes glass plate negatives dates from circa 1875 to 1899 and contains 16 items. Images in the collection show street scenes of residential and domestic life in late 19th century Brooklyn. Brownstones and cobblestone streets with horse-drawn carriages and streetcars are featured prominently. Two images of Manhattan and Troy, N.Y. are also included in the collection.

The Elliot Reisman photograph collection of an architectural office in Brooklyn consists of three black-and-white mounted photographic prints showing the interior of an unidentified architectural office in Brooklyn, circa 1910. The photographs are group portraits showing the staff, as well as interior views of the office. One of the photographs shows a woman sitting at a drafting table in the foreground of the office, while the remaining staff are situated in the background. Two of the photographs identify the photographers including Winter and Block, Photographers, located at 170 Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn; and R. P. Bolter, Photographer, located at 3rd Avenue at 93rd and 94th Streets in the Fort Hamilton neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Namm & Son Department Store in Downtown Brooklyn, from initial construction to the completed structure. The building addition shown in this album was a six-story extension on the corner of Livingston Street and Elm Place, located at the southeastern corner of the block from the building at 450-458 Fulton Street.

Hudson-Fulton Celebration photographs, 1909 – 1909

The Hudson-Fulton Celebration photographs consist of six black-and-white photographic prints showing various Brooklyn and Manhattan locations at night, and illuminated with electric lights, during the Hudson-Fulton Celebration of 1909. Five of the photographs show views of buildings and monuments in Brooklyn.

The Hudson-Fulton Celebration was a two week event held in September and October of 1909 commemorating both the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s “discovery” of the Hudson River and the 100th anniversary of Robert Fulton’s first successful run of his steamboat service between New York City and Albany, N.Y. Events held during the celebration included parades, fireworks, concerts, exhibitions, and the illumination of the exteriors of various buildings, bridges, and monuments throughout New York City with electric lights. Events took place throughout New York City, as well as in several cities located along the Hudson River.
