Minute book of the Apollo Club of Brooklyn, with correspondence and news clippings also included.
The Apollo Club of Brooklyn was organized in June 1878 and incorporated in 1879. The Club’s organization brought together male singers from the then-City of Brooklyn who enjoyed choir singing and performance. Despite being a male-only choir, female soloists regularly performed with the Apollo Club and many women joined as subscribing members. The club hosted annual seasons of concerts held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The club experienced financial difficulties during the 1960s, and its final concert was held in 1966. In total, the Apollo Club of Brooklyn performed 258 concerts over 88 seasons.

This collection contains materials documenting Edward L. Hyman’s career in entertainment, including a scrapbook relating to his time as Manager of the Mark Strand Theatre, clippings, articles, reports, speeches, trade press publications, and other information on motion picture distribution.
Edward L. Hyman was born in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1894. He began his career as a manager of the Victoria Theatre in 1917. He also managed the Mark Strand Theatre in Brooklyn from 1920 to 1927, and managed several other theatres before becoming Vice President of the American Broadcasting-Paramount Theatres, Inc., a position he held from 1950 to 1965.
