The Viola Hargrave collection of Bedford-Stuyvesant photographs dates from circa 1960 to 1979. The collection contains 74 black-and-white photographs taken by William Cox, Michael George, James Hurley, and Viola Hargrave. Images in the collection document the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant, particularly Hancock Street, Jefferson Avenue, and Quincy Street. Photographs show housing, including row houses, apartment houses, and frame houses; churches; and commercial buildings, such as banks and fraternal organizations. Photographs are identified with street names and arranged according to subjects and locations.
